93 bronco 5.8, automatic. runs good then idle drops to 400 to 500, voltmeter also drops to 11 to 12 volts until rpm increases, check engine light comes on and engine runs ruff, no power, black smoke on acceleration . After restarting everything is fine. Code was 6?? something to do with a trans solonoid ? or maybe egr ? What to do???
theres an EGR sensor somewhere if u have a ford book look at it..replace it and tat should fix ur problem my buddy with a 93 F150 5.0 5 spd had the same problem..
thanks for the input folks..... I checked KOEO codes , were 111 , 10 ,111 which meant clear on tests and continuous .. KOERunning gave 538, 536, and 632..... I changed battery terminal connecters which were corroded[didn't change cables], I threw in a new EGR sensor ,just because......but the bug keeps coming back. ONE time at start up the fuel pump didn't stop running before I cranked the engine over , but after offing the key the pump stopped after the normal 2-3 seconds. Could anyone out there help me understand what the codes mean???? I APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL RESPONSE i'mONE FINGER
Thanks B4hntn. So are you saying that during the test I should have turned off the od switch, tap the brake, and gunned the engine? I do remember the RPM going up on its own........ I guess new battery cables are the next parts I'll throw at the problem....maybe a fuel regulator if the cables don't help...
Yes, but at times shown in the procedure. I can't remember when just when. Remember the order is punch the gas for a high rev (think right after KOER shows 10), tap the brake, turn OD off and back on.
There are many parts for engine control. Before you start throwing parts at it you might want to do a simple test on the IAB. Ford Fuel Injection Idle Air Bypass (IAB)
check engine light came on today...doing 35-40....I tried hitting the over drive off switch...wouldn't work .... after check engine light went out , everything worked fine again. Could that O.D. switch affect the engine??? another clue to the puzzle...can't wait to solve it
