And here all this time I thought you chewed "RedMan". :)
The main thing about Pitbulls is they can bite -really- hard and tend not to let go.
Their personalities can vary as if they were mutts. Not meant as a cut-down,
BTW.
Pit Bulls get a bad rap because of owners that are real POS(plural) the breed is as trainable and can be as docile as any breed. The problem I see most of the time is that the people who get these dogs get them as property protection, and never spend the necessary time with the dog/s to teach them what is and isn't ok. They just get the dog, show it to their friends talk smack and dump it in the yard, where by instinct it does what all breeds do. PROTECT THE PROPERTY. The fact that the dogs came out of the property line to defend their area in post#12 is not one thing to do with the dog, it is 100% the owners fault. If your going to own a breed that is capable of such damage (Dobe, Rott, Wamrnr, Rdgbk, Shprd, etc..) it's simply imperative that you take the time to teach the dog/s what is and isn't acceptable behavior. What I do think would be a very reasonable situation is that the city could instill a program where you have to show that your dog has received a standard of training. Upon doing so they have you listed as a responsible dog owner with controllable dog/s. This would result in the recognition of problem dogs(all breeds) and allow the person/s a chance to get the needed training for their dog. It's a little "fascist" yes, but it beats jerking one breed to the curb over what in the end is simply "****ty owners" with 0 regard for their animal or the rest of us. My point being that my dogs will get defensive when a person walks by the front and they go to the gate and bark to let them know this is their yard. If it's a dog, and there is one that daily is off leash and in my yard which sends my dogs into an ape **** attack scene as the dog(male) comes up as pisses right on the gate their behind. Well what would you do if I walked up and began pissing on your front door ? However, I can shoosh my dogs and point to the rear of the drive way and they both stop the advance and return to the drive and sit, moaning a bit(disgusted with my request) but the do as told. Now, down the street is a large black Lab/Shprd mix that when any dog passes their gate(which is all the way to the sidewalk) this dog goes ballistic just like mine do over their pee pee buddy. The owner/s I have seen kick this dog, throw stuff at it, spray it with a hose and none of these tactics yields an ounce of result. The dog is gnarling it's teeth and chewing at the grate fencing to get through. I'm 100% sure if the dog could get through it would be a very bad day for everyone. So of the two scenarios which is the worse two Pitt's who listen to their owner or a mixed breed dog twice their size that has 0 regard for any instruction from it's owner. It's just plain crap to apartheid a breed when it's the owner that was reluctant to the duties that come with dog ownership. NO MATTER THE BREED

Hell I got two boxers and they play nip but they would never bite hard. I mean they look loike they would tear ya to pieces but they really just want to lick ya. They get out when we get dont watch the doors and stuff but theyve never bit anybody. My male is black and hes the one that scares everybody. In reality hes a wimp my grandpa got a little jack russell and he scared them dogs so bad they were cowerin behind my dads legs. My dads one buddy had a pit and he always said she was the nicest dog ever. His other buddy has one now and hes the same way just really playful. My dogs are just like yours and dont want anybody in the yard hell they dont like anybody by the fence and the male will jump on the fence and pop his head up over it to see who it is(6ft fence) he wont jump over it though kinda wierd.
Me and my lab got attacked by my neighbors 2 pitbulls while taking a walk, they got out of their backyard fence...2 days before he was telling me they would never hurt anything. BULL FING *****!! I ended up having surgery on my right hand, and as bad as my lab looked I thought the worse but he recovered fully.
I might be biased, but pits have no place in my world. Sorry dude, but the best pit is a dead pit....my opinion was changed 100% after the attack.
(Flame suit on)
Sounds like you needed to take it up with the owner. A good kick to the cajones might make him take notice. My Chocolate Lab loves everyone except for the poor mail man. He loves the mail mans wife though. We keep him locked up when we know the mail man is coming. I think it is called responsible parent-hood. You can't decide that all pits are bad just because two of them attacked you. If you get mugged by someone from Oregon are you going to decide that all people from Oregon are bad?
I believe everyone has a right to their opinion, and this is mine...sorry as it may seem, it still is, and I respect those who's opinion is different.
BTW, I have nothing against people in Oregon, however, those folks over in Idaho...I don't know....
I have a possible job offer in Edmonton building an upgrader for Petro Canada.
phone them up; I bet they would sweeten the deal; something just gave up the ghost at the PC refinery and we have gas stations running out of gas because of it
I would take my Chocolate Lab "Blue" with me of course.
I work for Washington Division of URS, we got the contract to manage construction of the upgrader. Probably still a year or two from completion.
I am not sure if I wanna be up there for that long. But it could be a great experience. Six square miles of excavation, sweet. Lots of big yellow iron movin lots of dirt.
Of course I would spend lots of time with Blue hiking and fetching and riding around in the pickup and such.
