2002 F350 7.3PSD 4x4 - just had one of the hydro boost lines blow out -thankfully I was just down the street. I think I'll replace them both seeing as how the labor looks like a pain.
Any tips about this? It looks like I may need to yank the drivers side battery and the intercooler air tube (or whatever that is). The PS pump is behind a big bracket that the alternator is also mounted to - mabe the worst case is that I have to unbolt that bracket..??..
I won't know until Monday what the part costs look like, but presumably this is a dealer part..??..
If you pm me your e-mail, I'll shoot you out the service procedure for it. It's not that tough of a job, but I made a freakin' mess when I had to replace my hydroboost itself.
You will need to remove the battery and air cleaner box to have good access
There's also a revised line from between the p/s pump and the hydroboost unit that helps quiet the pump noise down. it's Ford part # YC3Z-3A717-AA. I think I paid around $30 for that line from the stealership.
If you have any small metal flakes in the pump reservoir, you should flush the whole system thoroughly and install a small magnafine type filter between the p/s cooler and the pump.
I'll check back periodically, just let me know if you want the service procedure
Austin - thanks much for the quick reply. For some reason the ability to send PMs seems to have disappeared for me. Maybe this forum is one of those that makes new members wait until x number of posts...
In any case I have the offending part removed now. The lines to/from the steering box look pretty bad too. The one thing I am still wondering is about the Teflon gasket/rings or whatever they are. Is there any trick to installing them or will the new hoses be ready to bolt right on?
i just changed my powersteering pump and it came with a new teflon gasket for the hose to pump, anyway i had to soak the gasket in warm water for 5min then stretch it on the hose fitting, it will expand. if this is what your talkin bout.

In the event that this is useful info for someone researching this issue later - here are the Ford part numbers and prices for the 4 related hoses. I had one bad hose, but all the hoses had rotten looking metal parts so I decided to replace the whole set while I had the battery box, air box, etc removed.
These are the 4 (the lines to the cooler are a double set) rubber lines with metal tube ends and fittings that go to/from the power steeering pump, brake hydro booster, steering box and cooler.
If you are searching for these parts you may need to remove the * from the search string. NAPA and others carry some of this stuff, but the dealer was the only outfit with all in stock when I needed them. The dealer parts had the nylon gaskets and/or O-rings pre-installed.
Part # --------------List $ --------Price I paid my local dealer
