how much can i tow??
i bought my '01 explorer sport (2 door) a few years back and have never towed anything with it before so i'm a little confused as to how it works. i see that there is a plug-in under the rear bumper for an electrical device and the bumper is stamped saying that it will hold a weight of 3500 lbs. can i up my towing weight by installing a reese hitch or something of the sort?
what i'm trying to do is actually buy a trailer to help move my belongings about 1500 miles. can someone help me determine what size trailer i could feasibly haul without endangering myself or others? i know u-haul won't rent me one due to the fact that it is a 2 door explorer, telling me something about this particular model having an inefficient tow package and too many liabilities.
the truck is a V6 SOHC with the GVWR being listed at 4760 lbs and I have no idea what GWAR is, but the front states 2400 lbs and the rear 2650 lbs.
any help would be great!! thank-you!!

That plug is for the standard "flat four" trailer light hookup. Any small to medium utility trailer that you would be looking for for your move would utilize this plug for the trailer lights.
As for U-haul, is there any chance there is someone you know with a mini van or pickup or any non Ford Explorer SUV to go pick up the trailer? They only care what you use to pick it up with.
