My, how times have changed. At one time in my long and storied career I was what the company called a "hot suitcaser", the guy from the factory that showed up when the local engineers were having a problem with their computer system. Flash forward to the present ..... yesterday my 12-year old granddaughter was showing me how to use all the gizmos on my cell phone.
I'am a lover of techy gadgets but too many tractor's, truck's and chain saw's without hearing protection fixed any reason I ever had to play around with music in a little player besides I'am old school if I'am doing doing work or driving especialy in town the last thing in the world I want is noise other than related with what I'am doing.
I, for one, should have "listened" to the warnings about hearing protection and potential hearing loss when I was much younger.
Played drums in a regional rock band in the late '60s, early '70s. Hung around loud music thereafter. Untold rounds of skeet shooting, big pistol shooting, hunting, a quack doctor in the late '70s when I had an ear infection etc....all has taken it's toll. In fact, this fall I will be looking very seriously at hearing aids and I am only 55.
In regards to hearing aids...If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate hearing them...so to speak.
As I research these things I am reminded of door to door vacuum cleaner sales. Around here many advertise 50% off. If they can afford those kinds of discounts they are still charging to damned much...IMHO.

Just to let you know, that you need to talk to people that have a hearing aid and get their opinion on doctors. As my husband also needs a hearing aid and 2 doctors said there is nothing wrong with him. But 1 said that the hearing aid that he needs, he will hear the electronics in it also. They said that, that his hearing is one of a rock band hearing. So please beaware of this. The hearing aid for my husband was going to cost 800-1200 depending on the size. So please go to a good doctor.
Don't know if anyone has ever considered this route:
I stick with a PDA for an MP3 player. It's a cell phone, its a portable computer that's easier to tote than a laptop, it's a notekeeper, its GPS, its a web browser, has an email client, its a movie player (great on airplanes), its a camera and a multi-format music player. Also, instead of business cards I can beam my information to someone else's PDA and visa versa. I stick a 16 GB card in the slot (the card is about the size of my index fingernail so I carry an extra in the case) and put thousands of sounds on it using Windows Media Pro format (40% smaller files with the same audio quality) all in one device for under $250. I've never regretted the purchase, been using PDA phones for 8 years and they are amazing liberators from carrying more than one item. When I go on business trips I rip 3-4 DVD movies to it so I have movies to pass the time on the plane. Each movie takes about 150-250 megabytes.
I remember 8 years ago my PDA phone was huge and now its the size of a deck of cards except half as thin and does more than I could have imagined back then.
PDA phones are great for some but I personally don't find them quite as useful as you do. If I need a camera I will bring my nice digital camera and take good pictures. I like having a separate MP3 player (ipod) rather than relying on my phone as well for it. However, I am looking at a new phone for work and was considering a PDA phone simply for the calendar, organizer and contacts integration.

I look at is this way; when I go on vacations, to family functions or to press events I bring a high quality camera. For "planned" memories its the best solution. However, I can't keep one at my side for life's spontanious moments. I only have a few seconds to capture a moment with one of my children my phone is always on my belt ready to take a picture or video. 2.5 megapixels works find in a pinch. I'm not able to think of any compromise using a PDA for an MP3 player other than it doesn't look as "hip" as an iPod.
HTC makes some great PDAs. I stuck with various Treos over the years but HTC won me over this time. They have the Touch, Glide, Slide and Tilt, all feature packed at a good price and they are all very small considering their screens are larger than a Treo's. I looked at nearly 50 models of PDA phones before settling on the Touch because I don't need an integrated keyboard now that I'm not managing servers remotely.
For hearing aids you may want to look overseas. The hearing aid market in the USA is a rip off. Units that cost over a thousand dollars hear run a few hundred in Europe. Whatever you do, insist that your doctor writes the prescription but does not fill it himself! You can get the prescription filled overseas. If you want any indication of how cheap it is to produce a hearing aid go into a hunting store and check out the hunter's hearing aids there. They are very cheap and the technology isn't much different in many respects. I first heard about this on the nationally syndicated consumer radio show, the Clark Howard Show. My wife has some tone loss in one ear and it's the route we're going to take.

Thanks for the heads up. My wife wouldn't be surprised if I just bought one from Bass Pro Shops...
Im afraid to go into the bass pro shop....unless I leave my plastic home...
They just opened one in Mesa, about 8 miles away from me, and I havent been inside yet!
brand new Cabelas in Glendale too...45 miles away...scared to go in there also!!
Never been in a bass pro shop. But Cabelas in Neb. is really cool. But the husband won't give me the check book.
I did not know they made 80 gig mp3's yet, That is huge!
IPOD has a 160GB player.
I really like my zune. I had the 30GB one untill someone broke into my truck and stole it along with the radio. So I went out and bought the 80GB. I had a few issues with the 80GB model though. I bought it and did not have internet connection. So I couldnt upgrade the zune software. I couldnt use my zune for a while. My only other problem I had, was it decided to dump all the music. Not sure what had happened but I turned it back on and there was nothing there.
