im looking for a set of long tube headers to install on my 94 f150 351W. I looked at summit and found a set of flowtech headers for $165 ive been told that there are pretty decent headers. My question is im not looking to build a full out racing motor just a good street/strip motor. Is there anything better then those for around the same price i also saw a set of hedmans on there to for $10 more do they compare to the flowtechs? Any info appreciated.
the headers that i was looking at had a 5/16 flange and a 2.5 inch colloctor (to match up with the 2.5 in duals i have out back) so i fidgured that they would be nice ford 165 dollars i couldnt go wrong i mean they look close to the same desing and i dont so how they could be a big horse power difference?
The Flowtechs fit these truck very well.. I just put another set on the 302 going int my '90. You will need some fabrication skills for the tubing behind them, and you'll need to add fittings for the EGR and 02 sensor. The paint finish on these low buck headers is a joke, it'll be peeling off and rust may already be started before they come out of the box. I suggest sandblasting, degreasing, and repainting with a good quality high temp paint like VHT1500. Better yet is to have them ceramic coated after the cleaning, but obviously that will cost more. Power increases over the stock system are impressive, these things work so much better than the stock logs and Y-pipe, more power everywhere.
Im having our local exhaust guy install them for me. i just dont want to monkey around with the exhaust with all the fabbing ill have to do. So could i have him him strip them down and maybe spray them with hi temp paint?

I'm sure you could get anything you want as long as you throw enough $$ at him. BTW.. the EGR tube connects to the front header tube, and the O2 sensor should go in the collector flange, both these on the passenger side header. Temporarally mounting the header is the best way to get the correct location for these fittings, and the female end cut from another EGR tube works well as the EGR fitting on the header.
hey would strip paint and install they headers and fab all the flanges for they system for ~$300 i respect him as he does a very good job ive seen his work all around town and i like the setup he used on my truck, very clean and good quality for reasonable price
The paint that most of the cheaper headers come with are not hi-temp rated and will burn off. Don't be surprised if the manufacturer recommends using a hi temp coating of some kind.
What part # headers were you looking at? I may have a brand new set that will fit your truck and save you some $. To be sure, what is your trans type and 2 or 4 wheel drive.
