I just installed a Mallory Promaster coil on my 390, the book recommends 4.6-6.9 volts with the key in the ON position, I have 4.6 with my stock wiring, when I put the resistor on that comes with the Mallory coil it drops down to 2.5 volts. Is this enough to run the engine or should I leave off the resistor? Thanks
Robert

Thats what I thought! But the instructions that come with the coil say to leave the orginal wiring and resistor wiring in place. Doesn't make sense. I've contacted Mallory and am waiting for one of their tech people to reply.

Let us know what thay have to say. I would like to know if the new coil draws more current then the stock one. I don't worry about current thru the points since I installed my MSD. The points are just a trigger, and the coil is a step up transformer. Leaving the stock ballast in just does not compute to me.
