Yea they have tips you can move in and out. I thought it was wierd but the radio guy suggested it and so did the instructions for the antennas.
Well you'll be fine retuning them then, the cutting shouldn't have made a huge diff.

I currently run one copper wire to the frame, and it keeps me going. Later I'll add a bunch more, but that's when I step up to a bigger antenna and maybe a linear.
Ok and that little ground wire sticking out of the base of the antenna, should I run the ground directly to it or just put that on the other side of the mount from the true ground I am going to run?
OK new coax 18', grounded mount to a location that I know is grounded and the SWR is even worse. Texas if your free to take a phane call pm me your number, I am so lost now.
I found a local shop that suggests that I check the wire for continuity before I go any farther. Second I need to shorten the ground wire to the shorter one I had and possibly scrape the paint behind the washer for a better ground. He wants to know what happens when I do that. He is thinking that I have a connection problem and the readings I am getting is showing up like I do not have an antenna so its leading him to think its a wire/connection problem.
Ok put the K40 on today dead center of the cab, umm going to have to try it there to see if i like it. It is way under the swr. ch1 does not move the needle, 20 goes to 1.2sh and 40 goes to 1.5sh. So I am going to try it for a bit. I am also going to play with that other mount but for the time being its the K40. Also had the CB tweaked and tuned and is pushing 50 watts but like 5 on the key, something like that. I also had it tuned to work with a small amp that will push the system to 250watts. Nothing like a little bit of extra umph to get it going. Now I have to clean up the mess I have in the truck and get ready for the ATNs.
well right now the K40 is staying. no matter what I do I can not get the swr down. every time I try to add a better ground the swr gets worse, swings all the way over to 10. so the K40 is tuned to the best that I can. now too see what it does when the box gets powered up
Just an idea, Standing wave ratio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Near the bottom they talk about matching impedance. You could have a group loop between the cab and the bed. While not actually effecting the resistance of the antenna, you could have a voltage potential that is causing an impedance differential between the radio and the antenna.
