Is this a clamp-in probe, or a thread-in? I think most of the thread-in probes that use a fitting in the manifold take an "R" size drill bit (no idea what it measures out at).

Well I don't know. What thread size is your thermocoupler? 1/8 or 1/4. For 1/4" NPT you need 7/16 and for 1/8 NPT a 5/16 will work but it really should be 21/64 or "Q"

Well its a thread in type. Would the size of the hole be the outside diameter of the piece that screws in? And then the tap be the same size as the drill bit or just a bit bigger?

It's a pipe thread...tapered, you do not tap all the way though or it'll be scrap.
Bluemule gave you the drill size for an 1/8th inch pipe thread or 1/4 inch pipe thread.

A little more than half way...finger tight....Use the EGT probe as a gage.

Get as much of the metal shavings as you can out of the manifold. Use grease on the tap and drill, it will help hold onto the metal chips. Your turbo will thank you.

Ok, i was thinkin that i would just turn the tuner off and just spin the motor over so that the tubo doesnt spool much, would that be better than just starting the truck?

fox, my suggestion is no grease on the drill or tap. Point your hole downward and leave the drill and tap dry, 98% or better of the shavings will fall to the ground. The grease will just trap them on the drill or tap and make life harder for you. Also remember when tapping to go in 1/2 turn and back out 1/4 turn to break the shavings loose and let them fall out. Not saying cuda is wrong, just not how I prefer to do it.

huh?
I just did mine last night and into this morning... and that wasnt the size i used.
Mine was 1/4 NPT, and i started with a very small bit, vacuumed, drilled 11/32" (for 1/4" tap) vacuumed, tapped w/ 1/4-27 NPT ,vacuumed, then used a magnet to get out the rest. it threaded right in, no problem.
Jim, why is it a prob. if you thread all the way through? because i did...
P.S. writeup soon to come...

Also when you finish the work drill/tap, you should use a little magnet to get the shavings and also use a vacuum tool, and thats it.

The tap is tapered, my bushing threads werent. It works fine, and after jim said that i went out and made sure (even though i was quite sure) it's in there nice and tight...

There you go Dan, I fixed the post for you.

Yours has to be 1/8NPT rather than 1/4NPT

Why's that? Is it the drill bit size i gave or is it the tapered issue???
Actually, i think i remember it being 1/8 npt but it was 1/4" or so in diameter, so maybe that's where i'm getting mixed up.
I have CRS right now. finished gauges at 2 AM, woke up for class at 6. bleh.
I had a friend rev my truck a little while i watched the probe... it's tight w/ no leaks. either i'm lucky or ???
