Need help, furstrated

I posted yesterday about a wobble in my truck. I thought it might be the air pressure in the rear dually tires. I just pulled out of the drive to go air the tires and the wobble is pretty noticeable at very low speed and it feels more like a side to side than and up and down. If the tire is out of balance that Sears supposedly balanced would it be that noticeable at such low speeds? It was the rear outside dually tire on the driver's side that was balanced. Man, this only happens when you really need to use the truck.

If ALL tires are not balanced you can get vibration. If the carrier bearing that hold up the drive shaft in the middle is shot you can get vibration. If the drive shaft is bent or out of balance you can get vibration. If you hit something hard enough you can damage a tire to the point it cant be balanced. And a bent rim wont help either.

How do I check the carrier bearing myself and also the drive shaft?

Took the tire back to Sears and they double checked it and it's balanced. My gut feeling is the drive shaft or carrier bearing? I mean as soon as I start from a dead stop there is a side to side wobble almost like it's in the middle of the truck. Sorry for repeating but how do I check these two items: drive shaft and drive shaft carrier bearing?

It sounds to me like a tire separation. Can you jack it up in the back and idle it in low and look at the tires?I would think you would easily be able to see it.

You might have something here. I looked at the driver's side front tire and it is really uneven from the middle to the inside. But I don't think I really feel it in the steering wheel. But that could be the problem, maybe? If it is I'll get two new front tires as the rear ones are in great shape. I've heard stories about tire store not really knowing how to align these kind of big trucks, any truth to that?

Got to ask. You keep saying sears balanced one tire? Is that right? If so why only one tire? Like I said if all 4 tires on the back of the truck are not balanced you are going to get vibration. The carrier bearing has a rubber bushing around it grab the drive shaft and push against the rubber. It should give a Little but if the rubber got real soft that could cause a problem.

I would think if its noticeable at a low speed, it has to be very noticeable at higher speeds. This makes me think that its the drive shaft or carrier bearing. I mean if that tire is that much off, you wouldn't be able to drive it down the road.

The outside rear dually tire on driver's side had a leak in the valve stem so I had a new valve stem put in thus just balancing that one tire. I'm going to take a pic of the driver's side front tire and see if I can get a good angle to show y'all how it has worn very un-even.

If the Front tire is worn on the inside or out side it is because you need a wheel alignment.

A tire seperating would look different than uneven wear. Do any of the tires have a lump on them, one spot on the tire that sticks out further? It should be very noticable if it's bad enough to give you side to side movement.

Okay, I think I found it for sure. I jacked up the driver's side front tire and spun it around. It has a fairly noticeable lump in it and that explains the sort of side to side feeling because it's only on one side. Well, time for two new front tires and a alignment. I called Pep Boys, NTB, and Mid Tenn truck sales and service. Mid Tenn says they don't do alignments they send it out to a place called Tafa?! They specifically sell heavy Ford pick-ups and don't even do alignments! Pep boys and NTB both said the truck won't fit their alignment rack! Good grief, where do you get these trucks aligned? Maybe my co-op can do it? Oh yeah, my back dually tires are 265s and the fronts are 245s. Should I get the same size for the front to match the back? This is what was on it when I bought it.

Thanks as always for y'all's help!

Yea good luck with the alignment. Had the same problem. Finally found a local shop that did it and trashed the ball joints in the process.

I would get the same size tire all around. I will just look better and if you want to rotate them you can. I will try to help find an alignment shop.
