Fuel/Air ratio meter

I've read about an aftermarket meter that can be hooked up so you can "read" the fuel/air mix as the vehicle EFI system sees it. Apparently there is a guage inside the vehicle so you can see the mix on the go. I've read that it is basically a volt meter connected to an additional o2 sensor that has been installed in the exhaust system. My question is is it possible to connect a multi meter directly to the existing O2 sensor and end up with the same thing? How would I do this. I'm not interested in a permenant settup but just something to do some checking on the mix. I have done some mods to my truck that may affect the speed density system and would like to be able to see any ratio problems thruout the operating range.

Thanks

Randy

Fuel/Air ratio meter

I just bought one, which is going into my truck with the new engine. Autometer makes an example in the Sport Comp series. The instructions indicate that it can be wired into the existing sensor circuit, though they recommend splicing into the O2 sensor wire a bit upstream of the sensor, itself.

Thanks Beartracks. That site described exactly what I'm thinking of. Restorit, apparently it is possible to use the existing O2 sensor- right? What did your settup cost and what came with it? Can you desribe the directions for wiring into the O2 circuit for me? I was thinking about running a wire up to the cab with a receptacle to plug in my handheld multimeter if I can figure out which wires to splice into. I think there are at least two wires (if not three) running to my O2 sensor.

Thanks

Randy

Just read your reply..... I'll check the instructions in the morning (they're out in the shop). I bought the gauge from Summit for around $50 to $60, as I recall. They install just like any other 2 1/16" gauge, and have four wires to connect. As I recall, one is for ground, one for a keyed 12V+ source, one for illumination (lighting), and one to connect to the O2 sensor wire. My truck only has one to the sensor, but locating the correct one in yours shouldn't be too difficult.
