I took the mirror out and left nothing in its place except the square hole in the door. Although the mirror doesn't function and is basically worthless, the blank door doesn't do justice either. May have to go back to using a worthless mirror. That doesn't sound right? LOL
A simple solution if you like the look of the chrome mirrors (and don't like the look of what my friend calls a farmer truck) is to put a small round convex mirror. This helps you see more of the road!!
I brought the "new" mirrors and was so thankful I have a large rear window to see to the side. Your black farm truck mirrors look like they do the trick! My next purchase will be the small "fish eye"to attach to the totally worthless passenger side( but it does look nice)mirror.Good to know we suffer together

I use the convex mirrors on both sides and one for the inside rear view on my 48. I can see behind me quite well except for that small rear window...
I used the $16 Spot Mirror that Mid50's sells. Page 29 part # 1157-SPT in the 08 Catalog. It fit right over the original mirror and you can see down the side of your truck and in your blind spot. Now I am using it with the extended arm. It works pretty good for me.
Ed, unless your towing you don't really need that mirror anyway. I say just leave the good looking stock style mirror on and don't worry about it. I agree with you that it just wouldn't look right without both mirrors.
I spoke with a guy at my work who said he had the same problem. This might be a remedy to everyone problems. He took the arm off, cut a V about half way into the metal of the arm just above where the arm is exposed from the door. He then placed the arm in a vise and bent the arm slightly inwards where the V cut was. Replaced the mirror and he has good rear vision and the mirror seems to be in the appropriate position.
Wayne (BB Ford) I hear you on the mirror. I'm going to leave it the way it is. I'm use to my 98 Ford truck mirrors working so it just seems weird to have a mirror that doesn't function. LOL...
Wayne, I know that earthquake was in your neck of the woods. Any problems? I was at work, it caught our attention but otherwise everything was good.
Thanks for the great advice everyone. I'm glad I'm not the only one with a mirror that doesn't function. LOL...

hm.. finally getting around to installing my mirrors this weekend as we moved the truck to the new home.. .. so, what is the problem with the right mirror?
I have the one piece glass kit, and don't seem to have any problem with mirror adjustment, I can't see the side of the truck itself, but usually have my right mirror adjusted to see the left edge of the car in the next lane mid my rear fender back (the blind spot). I can do that just fine.
