Hey guys....2007 F-350 Powerstroke, 6 Speed, Long bed.
When I leave a light or a stop sign in Low or 1st, there is this "thump" somewhere in the drivetrain until the truck gets moving. The thumping doesn't seem to increase with engine speed or truck speed, it just does it at random intervals as I get going. It doesn't seem to do it as bad if I rev it up a little more before I leave the light. It also doesn't seem to do it in 2nd or reverse. Any ideas?
Thats what I was thinking, but the only part that is throwing me off is that it does it multiple times until the truck gets moving, and only in Low and 1st. It's not like it thumps when everything becomes engaged and then smoothes out. Maybe I am thinking of it wrong though.
Nobody else has any ideas? One thing I have noticed recently is that last weekend I checked all tire pressures and the right rear was fairly low, so I pumped them all up to where they should be. I noticed the "thump" almost completely went away. It is still there, but not nearly as frequent or noticeable. Does that ring any bells?
Anybody else? I have checked everything I can think of, but I can't seem to find the problem. I am close to 30,000 miles, so I was going to take it in before the warranty ran out so they can fix it. It just bugs me I can't find the problem.
Try checking the drive shaft center carrier bearing and also put some grease inside the drive shaft yokes. The yokes are noted for making wierd noises without grease. They should have put grease zerks on them.
You said it went almost away when you put rear tires to correct pressure, is you truck 3.73 LS. If so might be something to do with it had to have my LS replaced due to sliping and noise with only 32,000 on the truck.

Yes, it is a 3.73 LS. And yes, when I aired up the rear tires, it basically went away. I haven't checked the pressure lately, but it doesn't seem to be doing it as bad as it was during the summer. Could temperature have anything to do with it? It seems to do it worse when it is hotter out, or maybe it is just a coincedence.
My truck has the same thump. I have had it since day one. It feels like drive line lash. I just live with it. Maybe some day I will get it fixed but, for now it doesn't annoy me enough.
