Brandon, are you allowing this to go to the shop?

How are you going to sleep tonight Chris?
I hope not!!!! On the only weekend this summer when Chris and M.A. couldnt go to the lake with us, this happens. When my Boy called yesterday we hit the high points, and when he told me his ICP was only 360, I had him unplug the sensor, he told me he was gonna have it towed home, and I suggested pulling the IPR and cleaning it. *He didnt tell yall that he has changed the oil in the HPOP 4 times in a week* I had him check the 9 pin connectors, and the main harness yesterday while we were on the phone.

BTW he knows that he can use my truck next weekend if his is down. Big Red is not as purty as Ole Blue, but she will tote his new 5er without any problem.

Chris Ill call you in the AM and we'll get her fixed this week.

I'll update for Chris. Chris is in the middle of a big push at work this week and has absolutley no time to work on Blue. I do have some time but would rather him be there if I am turning wrenches on his truck. Soooo, The truck is at the dealership where our trusted diesel doc works, and we are awaiting his diagnosis. Chris will use Big Red to go camping this weekend if Ole' Blue is not out of the shop by thursdayish.

I'm really curious about your trash in the HPOP theory. That would throw a whole new wrench into the changing the HPOP oil discussion. After all you wouldn't want to stir up any gunk, but at the same time, you wouldn't want the stuff building up in there.

Had my IPR go out a couple weeks ago, similar symptoms...It would die just like someone took the keys out, then sit for a while and fire right back up no problems, then it would run for a few blocks and quit. Toward the end of the battery life it would only go a couple blocks before it would die but it would idle for 10 minutes no problem but once i started moving it was over. Changed out the ipr now runs fine no problems, check my "cps help" thread for the code i was pulling cant remember.

As of yesterday, this is exactly what was happening. Chris went to the dealership on Monday and Blue fired right up, but only ran for 11 mins at idle and then shut off. My thinking is that when it is cold it starts and runs until the oil temp gets up and when the oil temp gets up and the PCM commands different ICP, the IPR moves and there is something in there that is not letting the oil flow as it should. This is my theory and I may be completley wrong but its the best guess I can come up with. Sticking IPR.

I tend to agree that is a good place to start. Nothing from the shop yet?

Negative, I talked to Chris about noon today and they still hadnt been able to work it into the shop. Too many 6.0s in front of him. Doc, the mechanic we trust, basically told Chris yesterday that he had enough 6.0 work to keep him busy until next year.

Hmm, does he have a spare IPR in the shop. See if he'll let you borrow that and slap that baby in tomorrow night. I still have the spare I borrowed from the guy at our dealer shop. He didn't seem too concerned about getting it back. He was way busy with 6.0s as well and just handed me some parts for romp diagnosing.

It takes about ten minutes to change it out if you have a deep 1 7-8 socket. After doing mine i think you could probably do it with a box wrench if you finesse it a little. LOL

UPDATE: As Brandon said there's a line of 6.0L trucks ahead of me. He has not gotten to mine yet, there are two diesel mechanics and one helper at this particular dealership and I requested that Doc is the only person that can touch my truck.
Benny, I read your thread and this is exactly what is happening! I'm just not getting the P1280 code! I'm going to call Doc tomorrow and tell him to replace the IPR as soon as he gets to it! I would go myself tomorrow and replace it in the parking lot, but I'm busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest! This came about at the worst possible time due to my work load!
I will get back with you guys as soon as I hear anything. Thanks for all the help and concern!

I know, I know! I appreciate the sentiment brother! With you offering your spare IPR and Brandon offering to let me borrow HIS truck to pull my 5ver to the lake and the out-pouring of help, it makes me feel lucky to have great friends! You guys are great! Reps all around!
