Has anyone else had this problem? The automatic door locks on my 2000 model F150 XLT extended cab are supposed to lock whenever the vehicle is put into gear, and they do work about half the time. The problem appears to be with the driver's side door and i assume that there is a sensor of some kind that is probably faulty, but i have not been able to locate it. Has anyone experienced this problem? and can you tell me where to look for the door sensor? Thanks for any help......

Are you also having problems with the interior lights not going out when you close the door? This is a common problem and will also effect the autolock. The switchs are located inside the doors on the latch. Try some electric contact cleaner thru the latch from the ouside in every place squirt it. Sometimes will remove the crud causing the switch problem and save a replacement.
thanks for your reply.... i'll definatly try the contact cleaner. The interior lights are working fine, they don't stay on when i'm having trouble with the door locks. Funny thing though...... when the locks aren't working the "door ajar" dash light is on and usually when i have driven for a few miles, suddenly the locks will lock on their own, and the "door ajar" light goes out. That is why i first figured the problem may be due to a sensor someplace that senses if the door is closed. Thanks for the tip...
I believe there is a switch in the door latching mechanism that is used for the door ajar. It is probably used for the auto locks also. The dome light uses the pin switch in the door jam. On a Mark VIII board there is frequent mention of the door ajar problem. The fix is to spray the door latching mechanism with WD40. My guess is that the door ajar switch is also used for the autolocks.
