Tomorrow we are going to tackle the driveshaft clunk and I wanted to know if there is a special grease you guys use. I saw Valvoline Multi-purpose Ford grease is that ok? Or should I look for something better?
I think I spelled chalk wrong. Shoulda said block anyway.
I know the parking brake will hold the truck but what I was reminding you of is to put something behind the tires to prevent it from rolling. I'll always remember the guy a few years ago who did the "clunk fix" and didn't block the wheels or set the parking brake. He was VERY lucky as he watched the truck roll down the driveway with him UNDERNEATH it! I don't remember the full details of it but it's somewhere here. He came away unscathed but a lot wiser...and humble.

What a dumbA**!!! Trust me I will have my blocks set in, I never work on the car unless those are there, I have heard some pretty bad stories so I always put blocks in, plus I am on a slopped driveway anyways.

I remember that.....but I though he was slightly hurt, and his truck took out a mailbox or something.
Is this the clunk when you go into reverse? I have that, but never going into drive? I figured it was the trans output shaft into the driveshaft yoke as thats common on a LOT of vehicles lately for some reason.
I also have the clunk and the dealership told me they would have to lubricate the rear drive shaft. Can you explain the procedure so I dont' have to fork over my hard earned dollares to them?

Hey guys, I followed this websites directions and it was very simple. Now the only thing is when you take the bands/clamps off the boot they dont go back on the same. We bought the tool at Kragen for $10 instead of buying the new boot which was almost $50. I guess you can use cable ties as well.
Now make sure you have blocks under the tires or when you pull the driveshaft down it will roll!!!
Could you send me the web link for the instructions. I have searched and can not find the instructions. Probably just typing something in wrong, but would appreciate your help.
