I am in need of a tilt colun with out a shifter. Needs to be a floor shifted column. I know that the 73-79 trucks have these but are hard to come by. Well the fact that I live in Jersey, and anything that is old was crushed a few years back. And well yards in Jersey want Jersey prices, which are out of this world. ...example, I wanted 4 steel 2005 charger wheels, the basic wheels. 90 bucks just for the wheel at local JY, I got a set with tires for 200 shipped to my door off ebay......
I am also interested in what columns can interchange into my truck, 72 F100. I have considered a 69 Camaro tilt, and have seen a nice aftermarket tilt for this year truck, both between 275, and 375. Which is fine, but I would perfer a bolt in unit.
So if you know of a 4 speed unit for sale, or know of a no hassle after market unit, made in america, post it up here or PM me with an offer.
I would start looking on ebay or at least go to the yards to get an idea of what you would want. Do you have any local swap meets in the area or how about car shows, maybe that will help you get an idea if you see something you like. I think you will find that lots of columns will fit since you will be chopping the end off to attach it to the crown vic rack. I looked into aftermarket columns and decided against it since I couldnt justify $550 for a painted column and $750 for chrome. I think your best bet if you cant find anything local would be to post in the wanted section of any website you can find, once you find a column you may want anyway.
Yes there are some on fleabay for about $265 plain steel with tilt and turn signals only. All you havev to do is buy a universal mount to weld in under the dash from a place like summint or jegs and a flange for the floor board then its simple wiring an your done.
72 I believe your year range for tilt is 78-79 from a Lariat package only. Nutter problem is most all Lariats were autos. You might want to look for a tilt column from another Ford product and graft it in.John
John, the tilt wheel didn't come with the Lariat package, it was an option on all 1978/79's F100/350's & Bronco's.
I bought a 1979 F150 Super Cab Lariat brand new, and had to pay extra for the tilt wheel.
Tilt wheels were available with A/T, 3 on the tree and 4 on the floor.

I may end up going this route, since the steering wheel that I want to use has the cruise built in. And the flashers and lights are already on the dash.
Bill I don't doubt you for a moment. I'll bet you a cold coca cola that 99.9% were installed in Lariats and the 0.001% were in other models. AKA Bossmans truck cause he was the only one that could afford it. just MHO

I have been looking into it the past few days now that I see it will be a big pain to make my shift linkage work with the downpipe right in the way and will have to use a floor shifter. I think it would be the easiest option if you can swing it.
I really wish I was on the west coast right now, there are so many older vehicle yards out there, its not even funny.
As much as I dont want to dish out 250 plus for a column, it is new, and I hope made in America, and will be easier to adapt to the panther steering rack.
