Question Recommendations for 5th wheel hitch?

Im looking to install a 5th wheel hitch in a 2008 SD extended cab with the short bed (6'9''). I have been told I need a sliding hitch like the super glide, but I have also been told since the bed is longer than a normal short be I do not need the sliding hitch. Dose anyone have any experience with either style, Pros, Cons Recomendations? Im thinking about the Gearbox 335FS any input on the trailer would be nice too
Thnks

I do have a 5er hitch installed quite a few years ago into my "Long Bed" truck . A long bed truck is the right approach for driving a 5'er . The danger with the short bed is that the front edge of the fifth wheel hits the cab during tight cornering ( backing or forward sharp cornering ). If you are aware of this danger and constantly monitoring your position , you may get by with a "slider hitch " (yes , you need one ) . I know some people who had short bed truck and fifth wheel trailer , they ended up repairing their truck cab and RV .

My 8 ft. box provides only 3 " or so clearance between RV and truck cab during sharp turns . I do not think anybody can definately say "it is OK " without knowing 1- the front design of your fifth wheel 2- your fifth wheel's hitch design (extended vs. normal).

My suggestion , get a slider type hitch (some are auto-slide type , check it out ) and learn how to use it and be very careful because there is ALWAYS going to be a potential for an accident behind you .

Good luck,

Ken

Yes You do need a slider type hitch. The super glide is a very good hitch. You don't have to slide it manually, it is all automatic. The only drawback is you can only pull your trailer because of the adaptor that has to be mounted on your trailer kingpin box. No body else can pull Your camper either, unless they have the same setup. All in all It is a good hitch and You won't have to worry about forgetting to get out and slide it because it does it by it self.
