battery boiling over
i have a 92 f150 300 6 while at cruising speed app 55-65 my alt gauage slowely creeps to the high side. and the top of my battery is always coverd with battery acid .i have a new alt putting appt 13.5. could this be a bad battery ;i had this checked out by a tech and he has no answer says alt is working properly.please help mark

Is your guage a voltmeter or an ammeter? If it is an ammeter, I would hook up a voltmeter and test drive it to see how high the voltage is going. If you have an external regulator, I would replace it.

If you have acid leaking from your battery, that is considered a bad battery by anyone. Replace it with a Diehard. I read in Consumer reports that it is rated #1 in about 95% of the tests conducted. A leaking battery could have acid affect other components under your hood if you don't replace it. Had a friend that waited on his Taruas and he was out $978 for a A/C overhaul. Acid leaked on his A/C. HTH.

...Another item you may want to check is your voltage regulator. if it keeps charging or goes far beyond 13.8, this will definately boil a battery. A few years ago, a friend had a boat repaired, the guy at the shop replaced his internally regulated alt. with an externally regulated alt, but with no regulator it blew up his battery while on the boat! Not exactly the same situation, I know, but the point is, if the volt. regulator goes bad and allows an overcharge, it will boil the battery. Just another thing to check before you have a big mess and ruin a new battery. Good luck!
