Has anyone had any experience using trans fluid as a substitute for diesel. I have a local Ford diesel tech that claims he has used trans fluid for 100k miles with no problems. I have an unlimited supply of used fluid but not enough nerve to try it. It will only work in a 7.3 for some reason. I just dont see that trans fluid has same viscosity and does it burn?
it'll burn, but definitely not something I would do in my truck, I do have a 6.0 though, but I still wouldn't want to subject my injectors to that no matter what I drove.
I know some military multi-fuel engines say they will run off anything but AV-jet. If it can burn fuel oils, kerosene, gas and diesel, what is one more low octane petroleum product?
You can mix ATF with diesel but never heard of using it straight. Dont think I would recommend that. There is another thread on here about using 2 stroke oil as an additive and that is by far the more popular choice with the 7.3's and 6.0's that I run with. Claim to pick up MPG and its quieter.
I can't remember which of the aviation fuels is jet, av1 or av2, so I just use AV-jet for jet fuels. So i guess it's the highest octane kerosene at the airport.

The military multifuel vehicles will burn anything that is flammable and has lubricity. They demonstrated (while I was in the Army back when Carter was president) that you could drain off half of your crankcase oil, dump it in the fuel tank and get 5-10 miles down the road in an emergency.
I drove a Gamma Goat on 50/50 #2 diesel and gasoline, about 70% #2D and kerosene, #2D and paint thinner, I didn't try it but I know one guy dumped some charcol starter fluid in his tank.
They aren't fun in a parking lot, but if you can get it rolling before you turn they are a hoot. That old turbo diesel is loud, no ac, no radio, but it should go just about anywhere.
I drove one of those multi fuel 5 tons 53mph down hill with the wind at your back,it locked up one day at 53mph what a ride until I pushed the clutch in.

AVGAS is Aviation Fuel = 115/145 octane for gas engined planes.
JP-1, 2 and 3 and 4 are jet fuels....Doubt if you can find 1 anymore...maybe not even 2. Most use JP4 today....higher flash point = safer to use. Still lots of JP-3 still around too I think.
My brother has been running it in his Cummins for over 2 years now. He puts 5 gallons of diesel and fills the rest up with old, filtered transmission fluid. Says it averages $1.47/gallon. I have the 6.0L powerstroke and don't think I'll be trying it.
What your talking about using jp4,5,8 are trucks like the crash trucks p-2, p-4, p-15, p-19. The reason the dueces say don't use the JP fuels is because there are alot of military vehicles can use JP and there were few that could not.
