trailer hitch plug
trailer hitch plug
Ok here is the deal I hope someone can help me!!! I haave a 05 F150 Screw Cab with the towing package on it. I have a 24ft enclosed trailer that has interior lights on it. before I had the f150 I had an 01 expedition and pulled this same trailer and the lights worked perfectly. The dealer is telling me I may not have a fused plugged on or I need to purchase relays to get 12volts to the plug. Does anyone know if it is just a fuse or relays I need? From what the dealer explained is that the truck shoudl be wired and I just need to plus in a fuse or relays...Please help it really sucks trying to pull in my car with a flash light!!! Thanks in advance
Should be a fuse (I think). Relay is for the trailer brakes. Check your owners manual for the fuse location. ALso, for the interior lights to work, your key has to be in the "on" position. Do any of your trailer lights work? Brake lights?
yes all of the exterior lights work brake lights turn signals etc etc all work...it is just the interior lights and now that you mention the relay for the trailer brakes I have been wondering why it take forever for the truck to stop because the trailer does have electric brakes!!! And yes the dealer did tell me the key needs to be in the 'on position'...Any idea what those relays cost?
The relay that most F150's are missing costs less than $20.00, if I remember correctly. It provides 12v power, such as to charge a battery on a travel trailer. If your wiring from the trailer makes use of this pin to provide lights for the interior, it would explain why you don't have power if the relay is missing. The location for the relay is in the fuse panel by the passenger's feet.
Electric braking for your trailer is provided through an independent brake controller. This is a separate unit F150's need, such as a "Prodigy" or "Voyager." Do you have one? The wiring is under the dash to plug one in. Newer F350's have them built in, but F150's don't.
