I have a 2005 Ford F250 DIESEL 4X4 6.0L V8 turbo. I bought it not too long ago.I have 2 problems. First, I noticed today that when I started the truck a heavy white smoke came out of the exhaust for about 1 minute and then went away but I also noticed that my exhaust is leaking water(greenish) I am assuming it is coolant!! The oil pressure and temp are great nothing abnormal.Truck drives strong. Can anyone tell me whats wrong? and roughly cost of fixing it?
2nd It might be related, dont know, But my A/C blows cold and after 10 mins or so, it blows not so cold, then warm, then cold, then warm and thats what it does.Do I need a new comressor? Please help.
I'm thinking EGR cooler as well. If you're under 100k miles it will be covered under warranty unless the dealer can find a reason to void it, e.g., tuner, chip, gross negligence, worn tires, cracked windshield - well, maybe not for the tires or windshield but the point is to read back through your manual and diesel supplement so you know what you're on the hook for. IIRC it's just the $100 deductible? Anybody know for sure? Take it in ASAP.
Generally, head gaskets are going to blow pressure out the overfill cap, spraying coolant everywhere (puking). The EGR cooler will leak the coolant into the exhaust system and out the tail pipe. That's just a generalization of course. Apparently lots of dealerships can't tell the difference, so it helps to have some clue before you go in.
If it's head gaskets, it will cost you a $100 deductible. If it's the EGR cooler, it should not because it is an emissions system. If $100 is imporant to you, study the warranty guide before going to battle over it.
I agree with EGR cooler. My a/c also blows warm/cold warm/cold if I have it set to fresh air. If I have it on recirc. it stays cold the whole time. Every time you shut the truck off it reverts back the fresh air mode.
