Proper Tire Pressure

I recently had Goodyear LT load range "E" tires installed on the X. I checked the pressure as one tire looked low and it was at 50 psi. I checked all the others and all were at 50 psi. The load rating on each tire is provided with the caveat that 80psi be used. What's the deal? Does the tire dealer know something I don't by only inflating to 50 psi? I tow a 6000# camper with the X and I'm thinking I'm going to inflate to the full 80 psi.

Please provide your thoughts.

My tire shop filled mine to 60 psi. I know when you tow you want to be a lot higher. I dont think you should be at 50, you are gonna wear out your sidewall. Before we take our trip we are going to fill up to 70 or 75 rear and probably 65 front...

I have read a lot on this forum about tire pressures. I also have Load E tires and have found that 65&70 pressure gives the beast better handling. I also just got back from my first trip towing a 7000# trailer and found that 78 in rear and 75 in front gave the best handling. You may have to tweak a little. Also, I made a mistake and filled the tires after sitting in the sun, the pressure was off as opposed to when they were cold and it made for a very uncomfortable towing experience! Good Luck!
