I just got the X back and they put a new rear leaf spring on. Before the repair the X was leaning to the drivers side and was more than 2 inches lower. I got home and checked out the measurements again and its still off but only by approx an inch. Also noticed that the passager rear tire is almost flush with the wheel well while the drivers side is more inside the wheel well. I was wondering if someone with a Stock 4x4 X with 285/75/16 tires could measure both sides and tell me if both tires are flush or not... I dont know if I have frame damage that was never disclosed or maybe something else is broken that is hard to find. I know I am nit-picking but its driving me NUTS!!!
Thanks... hmmmmmm My husband and I inspected everything and dont see anything that looks to be out of place. I found that from the rubber bumper to the frame piece under it was 2 1/2 inches on one side and a hair over 3 inches on the other side. We are going to test the paint to see if its factory thickness or not. I also might have someone check the frame to see if its off somehow, maybe from an accident. If I find that it was in a serious accident and not reported the guy I bought it from will have some big problems.
Thanks for answering!!! Curious how a few others will be...
I checked mine as well. Stock 4x4 with 285/75/16 Pro-Comp all terrains.
Mine are both slightly inside the wheel well but I didn't really know how to get a good measurement. Tire brands and pressures and terrain could make small differences. So I measured from the inside of the wheel well, right there where that little indent is almost dead top center in the well, to the outside of the tread and found that my drivers side tire sticks out about 1/2" further then the passenger side. But both are still inside the wheel well. I have no noticable sag on either side.
Also check the opposite corner of the high side. If you front left is sagging it will make the right rear appear to be higher. Have you checked the swaybar? Just some thoughts that might help.
Seems to me that if it is lower in the driver's side it would make it appear as if the tire was pointed towards the top or uneven with the body panel. The problem may just be perception and not something wrong with frame or axle alignment.
Raising the body with a jack so that it is level should reveal if what I'm saying is accurate.
Ken, I will be jacking it up tonight and put it on jackstands to check it out more. You are right if its leaning its going to make the tire look more instide.

Hope that helps.
Thank you! I have been going around and stalking all local X's to see if any lean. We have found one that doesnt lean but one front tire sticks out more than others. Its possible it was just made this way, BUT I would have noticed this before buying it.

I thought that too but the fronts measure dead even. I do not have a rear sway bar yet. I just know something happened around the time I got the tires, because I never had the issues I am having till now. We checked all tire pressures and even measured each one. Now if one shock was bad would that cause it to sag a little?
FordTruckGirl77, I guess a shock could make it lean some, however I dont think that it would lean as much as you are describing. Let us know what you find out after you jack it up.
Also, while we are discussing suspension, I've always been told to replace springs in pairs. I know when I went to the International dealer to replace a broken spring for my Toter-Home, they would only sell the springs in pairs.
ok see how its leaning, now the driveway is almost completely level across obviously not down because its sloped. The camera is sitting perfectly level too (used a level) Can a bad shock cause it to lean? How can I tell if its bad? They arent leaking anything, can I tell by measuring them? I went through old pictures when I bought it and it doesnt look to be leaning at all. I just want to figure this out before we drive to vegas next week, since it is cause the backend to go to the left.

That is what I thought, but they do not!!! Stupid I know and the same goes for shocks. My husband works for Honda and its the same, they only replace the faulty one, now a normal person would replace both so they would be even.
Only way that it possibly could is if the passenger side failed to compress under static weight. Shocks usually fail the other way...seals fail and cause the shock to go "mushy".
I would say its possible they put the incorrect spring in....if it has a factory hitch.... its possible it was supposed to have a towing suspension upgrade. Do the springs look identical? measure the same thickness and leaf length?
It was leaning before the new spring was put in. I measured the shocks and the passenger side is almost an inch longer than the drivers. I need to get it up in the air to get a correct idea on what is failing.
