Timing is Everything
I've been describing my adventures in another thread, but now I'm facing a new issue. I decided to replace the timing belt while I had the engine out and it was accessible. I consulted the technical post in this forum and my Haynes book and both seem to indicate that this timing belt is not synchronized right. I have not disturbed the original position yet, but the photo depicts the belt at what appears to be TDC #1 I've highlighted the timing marks and crankshaft keyway in white. The distributer is not quite to the first position at this point either. The engine always ran and started reliably, but certainly lacked acceleration. An additional handicap is that in some clownish misadventure or accident, a previous owner broke off part of the inner timing belt cover, the part with the timing pointer for the camshaft
I'd appreciate any comments or observations.

'clock. if this engine uses coilpacks and not a distributor then its position really doesn't matter. if it does have a distributor then you better line up the rotor with Number 1 just to make sure some one hasn't put it some where else.
