07 5.4l Battery Voltage

Could someone with a 07 5.4l read their battery voltage with a meter while the truck is shut off and post what it is? My truck is reading 12.3V but every other vehicle I have tested reads a steady 12.6V. I am trying to figure if this is specific to new Fords, my truck, or I have a bad battery.

Thanks
William

William,

I can't check my truck because I'm in Iraq. But your readings do show that your battery is not fully charged.

12.65V 100%
12.45V 75%
12.24V 50%

Most batteries will also have a built in hydrometer. It's a small disk that should be green, but will be red if the charge is low.

Do you make a lot of short trips? You may need to go for a longer drive on the highway, 10-15 miles should do it.

Check your charging voltage with the engine running. It should be 13.5V to 14.5V.

If all that checks out, have the battery professionally tested.

yhe problem with having the battery tested, is that ford DOES NOT like to replace the batteries under warranty..... i took mine in with a red window, and would die in just a couple days when sitting.... but ford says, "didnt throw the magic code, all is well".

hope you dont have to go spend the money on another brand battery like myself and others on here.

Where are you located? I am reading in the service manual that the PCM charges the battery more in colder weather. what is the outside tempature?

The more you use the vehicle, the better it performs. If it sits for a long time, it has to streach and wake up. Heck this was true with my old cars in the early 60's. The more they sit, the more you have to coddle them to wake up. Just a fact!

Yes it's the original battery.I've had the truck for 2.5 years and it has 21k miles.
In my 97 F150 the original battery lasted 6.5 years.
