started a new job and they want to put in my contract to pay me $1.70/mile for me to use my truck for 6-12 months (until the company can get one or i can get my PS running RIGHT) pulling anywhere from 5K-8.5K pounds behind it... i know the truck can do it but the miles are about 300-350 a day this truck has not not been run this hard since 94 when my grandpa died from a stroke... and it was retired from the cattle buisness. I learned at 11 yrs old to drive in this thing right before he died i just dont want to kill it because of the value it has to me(even though i know it is hard to kill a stock IDI) it has had 38k miles put on it since 94, it has 120K on it
it should make it if you change your oil and use lucase oil aditive . just dont push it watch for oil leaks .i bought mine frome a lawn service they didnt run it for over a year i put 350,000 on it with no trouble just in the last 45000 ive been loosing oil realy bad .not shure how many miles but i know its over 500,000 miles
yes it has has had oil changes at 2500 miles since it was new or it would get changed every every 6 months regardless of miles with motorcraft 15w-40 or strait 30w in the winter but i switched it to rotella 15-40 but i put the rotella strait 30 in it in the winter always runs strong, so i know it has been maintained. the family got rid of it in 95 to my grandpas best friend and i bought it back from him in 05. it has a small oil leak that i havent been able to find in the last few years but my guess it is the rear main never loses anything between changes.... but i could be wrong maybe it is when they fill the engine with oil and what i see is what they spill. i put a IP and injectors in it in 2006 cuz all that stuff froze when USLD came out
Look into commercial insurance and commercial plates.
The way lawyers are these days, you want to make sure you have plenty of liability coverage.
Not sure how Texas does it, but here you would have to be registered for 16 or 18 thousand pounds gross, which is a lot more money than regular plates.
Also remember you will be spending a bit more on maintence.
Towing every day, and the summer heat, all questionable items get replaced.
You don't want to be stranded 50 miles from nowhere with a breakdown.
East Texas is rather flat, I don't see any problem towing the weight.
and in east texas there are alot of 50 miles from no one..LOL can get commercial insurance but not plates as far as i know. towed bout 11K with it and the engine never got above 200 the tranny 185 and oil PSI stayed at 60 dropped to 25-30 at idle this was running 70-75 most of the time and with the A/C on. until i get home lettin it idle to cool off a little and finally found out what that goofy green powder on the engine was that kept getting thicker and thicker the top off the radiator is corroded and it started dumping out coolant.. so one new radiator it is
The guys running hot-shot out of the orange area where i am have plain truck plates. BUT do keep in mind, wheather its your or the company's trailer, if it is a 5th wheel or gooseneck, its GOT to be DOT inspected, just like a big rig trailer does. a trooper WILL use that as a last resort if he has in mind to give you a ticket.
Come to think of it, My Mack Mixer truck has plain texas truck plates, granted the window sticker only cost about 700$.

Reason: oops, i forgot something
it is my trailer i will be using. this trailer i pulled today is a one time thing and it was on my time with my farms tractor and not the companys time. all i am worried about is my truck. i have looked into all the stuff with the state today and right now they say i'm ok as long as i have the insurance
