I'm with muddingmcdude and willeo6709 on this one. It sounds like your ignition cylinder is sticky or worn out and is causing your truck to think the keys are in it. Does the truck "chime" when the doors are open and you have this symptom?
Otherwise I would say that your VSM(Vehicle Security Module)(GEM?) could be a suspect.

No the chime doesn't come on when the door is opened, have I fixed it yet, I don't know it hasn't happened again since I posted this, real sporatic, I'll try wiggling the key next time it happens. I've got a call in to Marie Lebouex (that lovely witch) to give me a spell that'll give me a fix. Until then I'll try all your suggestions. The drivers side rear door is somewhat sticky closing so that might be part of the problem, I breakfreeed it to see if it will close better. Thanks guys for the replies. rugerman
