Pedal assembly malfunction
I guess the my foot is to heavy. ( My dog looked bummed)

Took Theo ( theoldladies ) car over to the bone yard and found a new used one out of a junker. Problem is when I removed the one in the Mighty Ford.
The sheet metal angle off the fire wall, that the top bolts go in split right off.
Before I removed the pedal assembly that is .
Anyone ever seen this. Any quick fix ? Any unquick fix ??
Thanks
MF
Anyway I'm sure someone has had this problem before and will tell you how to fix it.
Ford TSB Article 90-16-7 has all the info.....
On standard shift model Ford pick-ups from 1983 to 1992 there could be a problem with the firewall moving in and out or "oil canning". The best way to test the firewall is with the engine off and the emergency brake on depress the clutch pedal and watch the steering column if the steering column moves, then the firewall is also moving. A slight movement in the steering column is normal. If the oil canning problem.is present and not corrected, clutch failure and clutch pedal support bracket failure can occur which is far more expensive to repair than the firewall problem. Another symptom of firewall oil canning is having to depress the clutch pedal very hard to allow the starter to engage. There are two firewall reinforcement kits available from Ford; one is a firewall repair kit minor and one is a firewall repair kit major. I would only install the major kit. To install the major kit, you must remove the steering column assembly and install the kit then reinstall the steering column. This job may not be for the amateur. While the steering column is out, a thorough inspection of the clutch and brake pedal support bracket must be performed, also inspect all the bushings for wear in the clutch and brake pedal systems. The part number for the reinforcement kit major is E3TZ-7K509-B and should cost about $65.75. I would inspect the firewall and we do stock all the reinforcement kits, bushings and support brackets.
This darn thing did'nt appear to be oil canning. THat is the steering column was not moving much when depressng the clutch. Last year this time I heard the first crack when depressing the pedal.
Once one crack. It's just a matter of time before the whole thing goes. Which does lead me to believe that there is oil canning. The firewall its self appears solid.
Now the sheet metal bracket that drops down does look not heavy enough.
I had a piece made out of 1/4" steel made. Last night I drilled out holes in that piece.
I got two bolts through on one side. Tonight I'll drill the other side and add the other two bolts. If it lines up with the two top bolt holes in the pot metal bracket. I'll be ready to go.
If it does'nt I'll re work the new piece. If that does'nt last It will be the improvement
kit that PLC7.3 suggests. I'll let you know how it works.
Thank you very much for the suggestions.

Had to take the piece back to the metal shop one more time to align the holes for the spring clips and the top inside bolts that go through the pot metal bracket.
The holes were only 1/2 inch off after I worked the pedal assembly back in place.
I used some fender washers beneath the pot metal bracket and tightened it up.
Plugged the switches back in and the mighty ford rides again.
Total cost: Right angle drill $ 188.00. Used Pedal assembly $25.00
If it breaks again. Its the official reinforcement kit. Thanks for the suggestion PLC7.3
By the way the dog has been riding in the box of the f-150. She'll be glad to get back in the crew cab. But the gas has been cheap and the 300 6 gets as good as mileage as the diesel.

Not that cheap.
But as long as I'm not pullin the trailer. The gasser is o.k.
The hitch on the half ton is so low that I have to turn it upside down and turn the ball around just so I don't hit the jack on the pavement.
