I was spraying off my 95 F-150 this morning and noticed I got into some fresh highway paint. It's all over my plastic fender liners and my exhaust tip. What's the best way to remove this? I'm sure it isn't easy as this stuff has to hold up on the roads. Any ideas?
use Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover. Dab it on and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Most of the paint will rub off with little effort. The tough stuff you will have to put a little elbow grease behind it.
Perhaps a little kerosene, but try it in a less than noticeable area. Any solvent will most likely discolor the plastic, some will clean up, others will not.
i had a 04 explorer come in the shop with the same problem, laquer thinner will take it off, wouldnt suggest using it on the paint on your truck though, unless you know what your doing
I had this happen to my 95 F150 a couple years ago. I had just detailed it. I was driving home from a friends house late that night and saw the road painting crew on the other side of the road, but didn't think much of it. Well, I got home and parked in front of the garage. I opened the garage door and turned on the light. When I came back out of the garage to take out the trash my truck looked filthy. It looked like I had driven fast down someones gravel driveway in a rain storm. It was all white refletcive road paint.
I immediately went to wally-world and got 3 cans of Lifter 1 bug and tar and went to the car wash. I spent 20 bucks at the do it yourself car wash and used almost all of the 3 cans of Lifter 1. I got 99% of it off. The next day I used a credit card on the rest of the little flakes of it. Man it was a mess. It was all over the undercarriage too, so I used the pressure washer to take that off.
Whatever you do, don't srcub it hard or it will scratch the paint all to hell.
