? Noise

I have a 2007 - 6.0, a few months ago I noticed an occasional noise when accelerating. It sounds like a jet engine boosting up. Noticeably louder than normal acceleration. If I let off the accelerator it will usually stop or when the tranny shifts. It seems to be happening more frequently lately. Any ideas before I take it to the shop. Everything else is running fine.

My guess is it's the electronic fan you're hearing. Rising ambient air temps get the fan running more often.

Where's the coolant level? Any white powder around the coolant bottle cap? Any debris buildup on the radiator/intercooler/A/C fins?

Coolant level is fine, I'll check for powder / debris but this is really quite loud, like whining jet that gets louder and faster with acceleration. It first started on a trip near Tahoe several months ago in the cold with snow on the ground.

Check the fan clutch, I believe this to be the culprit.
You can do a forum search and you will find the same noise dealing with the fan clutch and its related components.

Same problem here. is really bad when I have the 5th Wheel Rv in tow and pulling a grade. All reading on Raditor and Transmission are reading normal. Ford Mechanic said That if there was a problem the Check engine light would come on. Flat ground ground here and there is no way I can show the Mechanic what it is doing. So what he is getting at is that The mechanic will not do any thing until it put me down!

That's when i first noticed the noise as well. Up in the mountains - up a grade. Now I am hearing it on flat ground as well, but it seems to be when the engine is warm and it is hot here this summer. So the fan clutch seems likely. It is a problem because there is no way to know if it would make the noise when riding with mechanic etc.

What is the fix for fan clutch running when not needed?

My fan runs when not needed for about the last year and a half. Everything reads normal but the fan winds up then down then up then down over and over. anybody know the fix????

to test the vdf (fan), belt, tensioner and waterpump pullies active command vanvar# to 100%, moniter vanss and rpm. raise rpm and watch. vanss should be greater then rpm allow up to a min for the vdf to reach speed.
typical excessive cycling of the vdf is caused by a failing vdf, pluged cooling system or a failing oil cooler.

Cheezit:
Thanks for that information about the fan on the Super Duty.

Another Question. Did I see where you Blocked off your EGR .
I had trouble with mine plugging up. Ford replaced it and told me to use the Celtane additive. I have not had any problems after that.

Blocking the EGR does that cause any preformance problems or warranty issuses

I could hardly speak for Cheezit, but what his sig states is that he's deleted it...not merely blocked it. By deleting you remove the exhaust heat ans carbon from entering the intake manifold. I personally have used Stanadyne Cetane booster for over 2 years at each fill up. Helps boost cetane in the ULSD fuel. Another important concern with ULSD is the depleted lubricity out engines enjoyed in the past...so a lubricity additive helps also.
