Focus idling issues...

Focus idling issues...
2000 Focus 2.0 DOHC.
(It ain't mine, so I don't know all of the details...bear with me.)
He says the idle is irratic and will stall at stop signs and such. He took it to the parts store and had them run codes. They told him to take the MAF sensor off and clean it...if the condition continues, check the O2 sensors.
What?
I can go over there tonight and pull the MAF sensor off, but how would I check it to see if it works?
...and is it just me, or does sound more like an IAC issue to anyone else?

Somebody get that man a cookie.
I went over there after work yesterday, and found bags and bags of car parts. New spark plugs, fresh oil, various sensors...seems he got a bit ahead of himself.
With the hood up, I could hear the vacuum leak from INSIDE the car...
Took me a minute to physically find it, but I did. $3 worth of vacuum line later, the car is back on the road...
