Transmission leak

I have a 1996 F-250 with a PSD and an automatic. While backing my camper into a camp site with a very steep upward incline and the trailer hitch dragging in the dirt the front pump seal for the torque converter started to leak. I lost maybe a quart in a matter of minutes. The next day I topped it off with fluid and drove it for about 50 miles with no leaks. Two days later I reloaded my motorcycle in the bed and pulled the trailer home, about 150 miles. Once home I checked the fluid and it was full with no leaks. This concerns me because a bad seal doesn't repair itself. If any one has had this problem before can you tell me if I should replace the seal or let it go. Thanks.

Your symptoms are pretty common, the trans overheated when backing up the incline. The fluid comes out the vent on the top of the housing not a seal. Everything returns to normal after it cools down. You may have the older front pump seal that will leak when the trans gets hot but goes away after it cools down. Adding a larger trans cooler is in your future.

Mine did the same thing the trans was overfilled and when it go hot the trany fluid poured out.. I instaled a temp gauge and a tru-cool trany cooler. Just pulled a load the exact same weight as when it over heated from Dallas Tx to Dearborne Mi and in never got over 160 or leaked....
