axle seals again

i just got back from campin and thewhole time my front axle was leakin oil out of the tubes i did replace them once already i put sealant around em like i was told and i used this sealant called GREAT STUFF and we used it on the motor and didnt have any trouble with it so i thought i would use it on the seals on the axle and i guess i didnt do it right but i did put em in the right way but the passenger one i put in i forgot to put it around the outside of it but i went back and spread it around the mating surface that was left after the seal was inso i figured that that side would leak but i did the other side with the sealant on the outside and a good coating of it on the seal and now they both leak my truck was parken on a side hill and it started dumpin out of the tube so i put more in to get me home did i just not use enough sealant or what i know whats wrong with the passenger side but dont know why the drivers side leaks now

Did you make sure the breather wasn't clogged? When you put the seals in did you pull the axle shaft out and check for groves worn into the shafts? I know your probably thinking groves in steel from rubber this actually does happen so check it all out. Before you put new seals in get some steel wool or emery cloth clesn every thing good.

You the guy working on the 4X4 front end right?????
The sealant only goes on the outside, the metal part of the seal to help prevent seepage not stop leaks. If you are putting these seals in from the inside of the housing they will look like your putting them in backwards, the rubber part goes toward the oil. If you can see the back metal part of the seal when installed you have them in wrong and they will pour oil out!

yeah thats me ok the flat part of the seal goes toward the outside of the axle tube right and the other side you put a big socket in and hit the socket with a hammer the seals that came out of it were metric dont know why

That sounds right and don't worry about the metric size, it's probably due to where they were made kinda like using a 16mm wrench on a 5/8 nut.
Keep in mind if you tweak the seals any as they go in they're no good no more.
