Running rough below 2K rpm

Just spent a beautiful Wisconsin summer weekend(WE GET 4-5 PER YEAR....) being up close & personal with my V10. It's an '01 Ex with 70k, 4x4, stock except for a K&N Filter.

It's always been a smooth runner, but when I started it the other morning, it had what felt like a miss at idle & under load up to about 2000 rpm, then smoothed out above that. No Codes. Cleaned the MAF, replaced plugs, checked the COPs & injectors with testers(ok). Checked for vacum leaks, but nothing readily apparent. Cleaned the IAC. No luck. I did notice that there were a few small cracks on a few of the boots at the very bottom, but none more than 1/8". Wondering if I might be getting a little spark loss/jump. The IAC wan't all that dirty and seemed to move freely, but I did notice that the disc wasn't seated - up off the seat about 1/16" or so. Plugged it in & turned on the ignition - no movement. Maybe it uses vacum to activate the solenoid so this may or may not indicate a bad one. Any other way to tell? Reading thru the threads here, it soesn't sound like a bad one would throw a code.
Anyway, just hoping some of you v-10 gurus can help shed some light on next steps.

Thanks,

Steve

FWIW, my 03 acted the same way when i bought it with 66,000 on it, but it would only do it when it had been running for a little while, ended up being #5 cop. I just had my IAC off but never turned the key on to see if it moved, sounds like a possability. I'm sure someone else will chime in with a little more info on that though

Buy one COP then rotate it through the cylinders until the engine smooths out.

Been gone alot so the Ex has been parked. Replaced plugs, cops, scanner finally showed a missfire on #10. The plug looked fouled/brown, but not oily. Put in new plug, no luck. Switched cop & plug out with Front cyl. and still no luck. Swapped the injectors and STILL no luck. Checked the compression again & still good. No valvetrain noise.
I haven't invented any new cusswords yet but am sure finding new ways to string them together....
As always, any new ideas are appreciated.

FOUND IT!!!!!!!
Took the truck over to a friend with all the tools & toys and checked the #10 injector with a noid - wasn't flashing. Thought the injector was working properly because a flash tester showed it to be pulsing and I could hear it clicking with the stethoscope. Turned out to be a broken ground wire right where the #10 wires came out of the harness. Go figure.

I hope this'll make somebody's next troubleshooting job a little easier.

Steve
