I went out today to put some water in the radiator after i flushed it.Now i know the radiator is junk already, but it'll still hold water. So i watched around the drain **** to make sure it didn't leak.I glanced at the motor after i had finished filling up the radiator.I noticed a nice big steady stream of water coming out of the side of the block.I felt down and located a freeze plug and felt the water coming out from the side.So i knew then and there i had probably popped a freeze plug. Now i wasn't planning on keeping the motor(300 I6) anyway, but i was wondering, besides water freezing in the block, what else,if anything, causes the freeze plugs to come out? When i bought the truck back in march the guy told me that the truck had been sitting for 4 years..I think i know why now...
I'm guessing that the freeze plug has rusted out. If the truck sat for several years with no water or antifreeze, it more than likely rusted out.
Yea when i flushed the radiator the water was coming out brown and after about 5 flushes it was still brown. So i'd really hate to see what the inside of the block looks like. When i swap in the 302 i'm gonna tear the 300 down and have a look see.
I'll agree, it sounds like it might have rusted out unless it had been sitting with just water in it, which could have popped it loose while it sat.
Thanks for ya'lls input.Theres a couple of things wrong with the motor, and i found this today,so i was thinking maybe this is why the previous owner parked the truck, but now i'm not sure. The truck still runs and drives, but has it's problems...
