Hi, I tried searching but couldn't find anything on this, I recently purchased a '01 Expedition EB witch I'm very happy with, except for the overhead video monitor that is the only thing that doesn't work in the truck , I like to do some research first,...so I ask you guys that might have come across the same problem if anyone has ideas/suggestions on how to fix my video screen (all the LED,and buttons light up /VCP works fine), but screen is dead . Thanks in advance.
I know on mine ( 2000 XLT) there are various inout settings, one for the vcp & another for video in & TV- did you check your input settings?
Thanks for replying, but yes I checked all the settings up and down and no luck, is just that I dont even get a blue screen, I'll keep searching I guess.
It could be that the backlight Of the lcd screen is fried, lcd screens need a backlight so you can see whats on the screen, contrary to crt screens which have their own light lika a light bulb.
Get a signal to the screen, be it a dvd or the screensaver of the vcr, and try to look at the screen from the side and see if you can see some very little changes on the screen like movements. If you see something the lcd screen is safe but the backlight is gone. Backlight on lcd screens are mostly small neon tubes. It's difficult to change or find a replacement. The easiest way and what most technicians do is to change the neon bulb with several white high brightness LED's, the result is sometimes much better as the screen will be brighter. Google "LED Backlight for LCD screen" or something similar and there are even instructions on how to do it yourself (if you are handy with a soldering iron and some basic electronic knowledge)
If you don't see anything on the screen it's maybe the lcd itself which I don't think, their'e pretty rugged and resist punishment unless they are dropped, or the lcd controller card, in which case I would pull the unit and take to an electronics shop.
Good Luck!

Well! thanks.. you just gave me an idea, I didn't think of trying an external input, (I'll do that next) what bugs me is that is that is probably nothing mayor, is just hard to diagnose. when worse comes to worst I'll just take it to the "Stealer" or an electronics shop, I really don't want to mess with the electronics in a car, I'll probably brake something. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
