exhaust system

My '94 f250 which I bought a few weeks ago has a 5.8 litre engine and automatic transmission, regular cab and 133 in. wheel base- and had a new edlebrock exhaust system installed at 29,000 miles or so in 2004. I just noticed a hole going right through one of the the tail pipes ( there are two pipes side by side coming out of the muffler.) The muffler is not loud at all. Would a complete exhaust sytem go bad in just 4,000 miles or do you think it is just the tail pipe section. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of exhaust systems and how much of it I'm going to need to replace. I don't think there are holes any where else in the system though there may be some rust spots?

Can single exhaust system be changed to dual exhaust, headers or sidepipes or something like that? How much would it cost to get that done approximately. Do regular muffler shops do that kind of work or do you need to get someone else like a body shop to do that? my suspision is that I'm better off sticking with what it has and just replacing the tail pipe section.

Also has a hole in the side mount 19 gal fuel tank. Can you replace it with the 23 gallon plastic tank that fits the 95 f250 or do have to stay with the same tank?

thanks

I am sure there are several options available for your fuel tank, your cheapest option will be from a junk yard.

For the exhaust, mileage has little to do with age. The truck is a 94, so it's 14 years old now. I would expect any rust holes to be in the muffler, but if the aluminized pipe was damaged, it would allow moisture to work on the bare steel that much easier. A rust hole would be scaly and brown. I suspect that hole was from the manufacture and that they had a reason (be it, for drainage or to store the pipe on a rack.)

You can do anything your willing to pay for. Around here, it's about $350 to cut off the stock and run duals. SS pipe will cost more as will brand name mufflers.
