Very simple question about solenoids

My van came with a number of solenoids which were used to power extra lighting, a compressor, lots of other things. They all look the same, just like almost every solenoid you have ever seen, except that some have a small "x"- italicized-- on the LEFT side mounting tab, and others on the RIGHT side.

Am I right in my suspicion that the side with the "x" is the side which battery current should run to? Or do they mean something else, or maybe nothing at all?

Thanks for any help.

Very simple question about solenoids

Except in the case of the Ford solinoid that has the two small terminals, the connection to the battery should not matter. If the I terminal was not used, even the Ford type could be reversed.

Very simple question about solenoids

Those are "relays", not "solenoids". A solenoid is used to push or pull - when it's permanently connected to an electric switch, it's called a relay.
