She called me yesterday afternoon to let me know that the storm had passed and that they were ok.
Thier neighbor lost 1/2 of thier roof.
They live right on the water in a retirement community and the storm surge filled the canal, but didn't climb up onto the yard.
Harlingon (spelling?) made out a lot worse from the looks on the news.
I think the bridge to the Island is reopened now.

Jury Duty

This is the 7th time that I have been called to Jury duty in the past eight years.
Sitting here waiting for my name to be called and I need to get back to work!
They tell me it is a "random selection" but I am starting to seriously dis-believe that statement.
Every time I get called onto the jury panel, I say something that one of the lawyers doesn't like and I get excused.
The last one was for a car wreck victim that was sueing the guy that hit him for damages that "might happen in the future".
Well I told the panel that I cannot in good conscience award any money for somthing like that and they let me go.
The one before that was for a "police brutality" case and I told everyone in the courtroom that ther is certain behaviour that attracts the police officer's attention in the first place. With that in mind, "Your Honor" I see no reason for this whole hearing to be taking place at all!
The plaintiffs all turned around and glared at me.
The defendant, a police officer, simply sat there, quietly.
They let me go.
