Is my 79 f250 460 c6 holley 4 barrel choke supposed to be electric or heat tubes from manifold I have both but the wire is dead. I checked it With the test lite and its neither + or - is this system supposed to use the heat tubes to activate the choke turning the coil spring in the choke adj. housing to ground for some sending unit or did someone change this motor to 351m/400 how can I tell if info on valve cover is unreadable. please help thanx.
The Electrically & Vacuum heated choke coil has the wire going to the Stator connection of the alternator, so there is power only when the engine is running.
thank you but can you tell me why theres no current in the wire. I know its the right one because of the unique plug. I traced it back to the firewall to a 2 pin plug near the a/c box. one blue one orange w/stripe I forgot stripe color anyway I checked the connection its good the blue wire is hot when key is on and it goes to the rear of the carb and plugs onto a sensor or switch at the egr valve another blue wire piggybacks off and runs to the front of intake but just hangs there I'm using that wire for now but would like to make things right. I'm assuming this 460 uses both vacuum and electric to heat the stator. Any more help would be appreciated thank you.
I just converted a 390 2bbl to an electric choke. I got rid of the heat tubes since they don't work, fall off, etc. I ran a wire from the stator connection on the alternator to the choke terminal. This is 7 volts only when the engine is running, works good.
