i have a 1999 7.3 with a few upgrades to it but need a little insight before i do more if i do more. I started out with a k&n filter but i hear AFE is the way to go what kind of HP or fuel economy benifites are there? I then cut the muffler out so it is completely straight piped, and sounds bad @ss whissels and rumbles like crazy, just wondered what can be gained from a 4" or 5" straight pipe system for HP or fuel economy. The most recent thing i did was have an edge evolution put on, and o my just in level 3 of 4 it moves FAST. doesnt smoke as much as my brothers cummins but it will leave a cloud just not block out the sun. Im happy with the MPG im getting 19 in town (same on highway) i am just wondering if i add a few more things to it will it get even better. power gains are not to big of a deal i dont have that heavy of trailers. last thing has anyone tried the fitch fuel catalyst in their 7.3? it looks impresive but before i shell out 300 or so for it i want some testomonials. thanks for your time in reading this essay and for any help you can give. rattle on fellow 7.3L's
Well fist off ditch the K&N for a Napa 6637 filter. You will see a lil improvement with a 4in system all around. Next send your Edge evo to Jody and let him reprogram it. Gauges if you dont have those should come very soon if not first on the list. Just my opinion.
does anyone know how much my rpms will drop at 65 or 75 mph if i put on 33 inch tires instead of the stock 31's. i have a 6 speed manual that runs just under 2 thousand at 65 and 2200 or 2300 at 75mph?
some one post Kris post on that one thread from a while back please.
the exaust will help a little bit but is more of something thats done in preperation for other mods. The K&N will not filter good enough for our trucks, and it will cost you one day. Jody at DP tuner will take your standard "off the shelf " tunes and create you anything you can possible dream of ( not sure about the Evo stuff though) or you can pick from MANY different options.
I run 35's and at 2grand Im right around 75 mph with 3.73 gears in the rear.
That would be the "clean" side of the airbox of my truck when I bought it with a K&N drop-in filter.
Aftermarket intakes like the AFE are great, but the 6637 is the best "bang for the buck." The only trouble is an increase of in-cab noise, which can be fixed by building a cold air box (F350-6 has a template that you can use). I run 285/75/16 tires (33's basically) and run just under 70 mph @ 2K RPM with 3.73 gears.
thanks for the help i didnt know k&n's were that bad kind of freaky, glad i havent been beatn in the sticks to much since i put it in. does the 6637 filter cut down the fuel millage at all or does it not make much difference with what i have done at this point?
the Install is pretty simple, just take out all the crap from the other fiter, stock airbox or watever airbox the K&N uses and then just shove the intake tube over the opening on the filter and tighten up the clamps
