No back-up lights

I have a '93 F250 with an E4OD. I have no back-up lights. I already replaced the MLPS but that did not work. Yes my bulbs and fuses are fine.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks,
Geoff

If you have a meter, check to see if you have 12 volts to the light bulb socket, if you do, you have a ground problem. If you do not, I would look at that back up light switch. If you have a column shift it is probably on the steering column somewhere, if you have a floor shifter it is on the transmission linkage.

The backup light switch was never in the column - it's always on the transmission, and on the E4OD, it's the MLPS which he already replaced.

No back-up lights

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Dec-02 AT 08:47 AM (EST)]Ok so if I check the socket and get 12 volts then it is a ground problem. If not I need to check the harness from the MLPS back correct?

Is so what wire (color) am I looking for? And if it is the ground then where do the lights ground too? I don't really know how to read a schematic

I have the schematic in front of me. Black is ground and should go to the body or frame somewhere close to the lights. The positive going to the lights is black with a pink tracer. Positive to the back up switch from the power supply is white with a pink tracer and changes to red with a light blue tracer after a harness plug.

No back-up lights

Well I have no voltage at my back-up light plug. I was looking at a wiring schematic and I noticed there is a back-up light relay. Anyone know where it is under the truck (if I actually have one?)

Again it is a '93 F250 7.5 w/E4OD.

The backup light relay should only control the trailer lights, and should be under a cover beside the engine-compartment fuse block with 3 other relays.

Follow your wiring diagram toward the battery from the MLPS and see where it's supposed to get power from.

check for power at the trannsmision. Make sure you got power there. If it is then check wires near the back off the vehicle by any plugs. If there is now power it could be a bad wire in the plug on the switch.
