Hi All, I stumbled across this site while researching turbo issues.
Ill get tons of useful info.
Ive got an 04 6.0. when pulling a trailer (8000 pounds) at a steady speed
the turbo sputters, makes a flapping noise motor losses power and blows thick black smoke.. Its getting worse.. The dealer says if he cant get it to do it, Im sol they can pull it apart and ck it out . but if its carbon build up. I pay
Ive cked the boots and dont see any tears and they are tight, but there is alot of oil around the lower intercooler boot.
Im not sure I want to let the dealer pull it apart and present me with a big bill, It may be better to go with a banks or something else..
Any thoughts??
Thanks in advance
Being loaded with carbon does not void your warranty. I would try another dealer who wants to work for you. There have been some scams where dealers try to charge for "cleaning the intake". Don't fall for it.
The intermittent loss of head is a common way they fail and the dealer should know it.
Also, the turbo is covered under the emissions warranty and it's repair should NOT cost you a deductible.
Sounds like your turbo is getting stuck and it sounds like the dealer is trying to make a buck off of you. If the truck is totally stock and the carbon build up is there it's a warranty claim. As for the oil around the boots, a little is normal but large amounts of it is not. That could point to a bad seal in the turbo itself. Both problems are from the same root cause, bad turbo. We do have a replacement for the CAC but not the turbo itself.
Thats the info I need, Truck is 100% stock. yes the dealer is trying to say its not covered.. Its the same dealer that didn't believe the headgasket was blown, It took 3 months and 6 trips in before they admitted it and had to replace the heads..I fear this will be the same issue. The truck runs fine if its not pulling a trailer.. If they cant verify the prob. they wont do anything.
