I don't really think this is off topic. I've read about it a little and wondered if thats similar to what chevy and others use for the computer to tell you when to change the oil. I don't know enough about oil to understand if what they describe would work.
The companies that do oil analysis could probably tell us, but since it might hurt their business I don't know if we would get the full story from them. Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.
That sort of thing is something that I would never have a need for.
I change my oil WAY more often than is "recommended".
The reason for that is the hideous mess that I find in the valve covers of so many engines. All because they didn't change thier oil often enough.
Diesels are pretty much immune to the sludge buildup that gassers are so good at doing, so a diesel can go farther between changes, but I still change it out anyway.
It is such cheap insurance, I never understood the reasoning to putting off such a simple, yet effective service for the engine.

The reason I looked into it is because at 5,000 mile intervals I change my oil every 5 or 6 weeks. If I could bump that up to 8 or 9 week intervals it would pay for itself, but like you, I think changing the oil is cheap insurance. I won't invest in something like this unless I know for a fact it will work.
You sound like a good candidate for buying oil by the barrel. It is not any cheaper, but it is a lot more convenient.
Unless you have it done by someone else.
(Somebody else working on my truck = flying pigs.)

My barn has a dirt floor so everything I own has a nice coating of dust on it. With gallon bottles I don't have to worry about getting dirt in anything. Plus I drive around enough that stopping off at the store isn't a big deal. At least I don't have to worry about oil stains on concrete.
