i was driving my truck last night for the first time since last fall. when i got back here to pick the old girl up, put new batteries in her and she fired right up and ran beautifly. problem was when i drove it down for fuel i noticed it was pissing fuel out of the injector returns....badly.. like a puddle as soon as i stopped.. i replaced a few o rings last summer but ran out of them and never worried about it again. well i managed to wrangle up enough o rings for 4 injectors so i picked the worst ones. NOW this is where things went wrong. it was about 11;30 pm, not in my town.. next town over, no parts stores open, the last injector to do (back drivers side) and the line is cross-threaded coming off.. and the threads are not good on the injector.. now i change the o rings but i could not get the line to seal up again....and i mean not even close..fuel pissing everywhere, engine missing. countless times i tried till finally i took a file i found and filed the ridge off the flare, then tightened the nut and tapped it with a hammer till i got it tight. Fuel leak fixed....slowly seaps now but i was satisfied till i get some more parts. LEsson LEarned...dont start projects at 11pm when you got things to do the next morning
Tell me about it, my truck threw EVERY SINGLE belt off at about 7:15 p.m. By the time I got the only one I could find(Power Steering) back on it was 7:30, I drove 30 mins down to Advance Auto Parts(which I hate but it was all that was open), he was shutting the door to lock up and I stuck my foot in the door, he said they were closed and I said I was going to run this Piece of S*** through his door if he didn't open up right now and sell me some belts. He let me in luckily and I got them on and limped it home.
Also one of the first projects I ever did on one of these trucks was when I had just turned 15, it was my project truck and I was putting Orings on the injectors, of course typical 15 year old shade tree mechanic, when the injector lines wouldn't go on straight I put them on halway crooked, stuck my wrench on it and tightened the crap out of it, stripped out two injectors. So I kind of know where your coming from
