how many carry a spare tire?? reason im asking i just traded trucks and i saw there wasnt a spare. the tire off my old truck wouldnt work it was a 16" tire the truck i have know has 17" tires. it looks like they are really good tires some sort of bf goodrich.. would junkyards have any rims for a 2001 f150 you think??
i saw this am my tires said they should have 50psi cold i checked them they had 40 should i add air to them or is 40 ok..i did drive it this am then checked them.
In over 100k driven with my current car, I used my spare, I think, twice for a grand total 4 - 5 miles, plus pulled a nail and plugged a hole about 2 - 3 times. In an urban area you can get away without it, but out in the boonies it can be highly inconvenient, and costly.
The chances are certainly small, but there's a goo reason why most people carry one. On a good road you can even drive a few miles on a flat tire/rim (been there, done that ) but that may not work too well on less than ideal roads, or over longer distances.
Tell me about it... damn BS and MS and still can't find work...
but as far as a tire is concerned, my 2002 didn't come with a spare. I paid $40 for a rim and $20 for an used tire and got one mounted right away. So far, two years later, haven't used it, but if I'm out hauling horses and I get a flat, I am NOT waiting an hour with animals onboard waiting for US Riders to come help me. AAA would just laugh at me, since they refuse to service any vehicle with a trailer hooked up.
I figure as long as I have the spare I'm less likely to get a flat tire. One time when I was 17 I was out of town visiting friends and the spare tire fell off my truck on a dirt road. Woke up the next morning to a flat tire. I had to shovel gravel for several hours for my friends neighbor to get money to fix it. Went back down the dirt road and found my spare later that day.
I've used a spare tire exactly once. That was with my '83 F-150 that came with P-rated radial tires. I changed over to LT tires and never had a flat on any F-150, 250 or 350 truck that I've owned since then. Slow leaks, yes - a flat that needed installing the spare tire, no.
Yep, I still carry a spare tire. It may not match the tires on the truck, but would bolt up if necessary.
I've had my truck for a little over a month, 2006 F150 5.4l v8 4x4. I was on vacation up at the beach a couple weeks ago and parked at this spot to do some fishing. Low and behold my tire is hissing and leaking are at an alarming rate. Luckily i had the spare tire underneath. I'll never be without a spare because you just never know whats going to happen.
