Heater core replace tips

While changing the h-core on my 88 F150,I came across a time & part saving tip. After the glove box is out, before you unscrew the access cover, clip the 2 bottom locating pins flush with the cover. This allows better than 1/2" more room to remove the cover, the old core, and, keeps you from damaging the new core goin' back in!Also,I had leftover antifreeze from the leaky core come out of the box far almost 2 days after the swap,so,don't suspect a defective core right away, give it a few days(I wiped inside as best as I could, but there is this cavity that is unreachable with a rag, every time I'd run the A/C,the run off would push the coolant out a little more & more).

Do you have to take off the dash to get to the heater core?
I have an 88 F150 4x4.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Cindy

Just remove the glove box and there is a cover plate with several screws - the heater core is behind that, just remove the hoses under the hood and the heater core should slide right out.
