I've had some trouble with my idle speed for a while and its getting to me.
I have a 1971 F100, 360, 4 speed granny with the 2100 2 barrel carburetor.
Anyway, my problem is that I feel like the fast idle speed stays fast for too long. I know that the fast idle speed is OK (I measured it at 1500 RPM) and I know that the slow idle speed after it warms up is OK too, but it just seems like it takes too long to come down to speed.
I've adjusted the fast idle cam screw to specs (measured it with a 11/64) drill bit, but now I wonder if the choke pull down gap is off. The book says 3/16 but it is way bigger than that, plus when I try to turn the little screw underneath it doesn't seem to adjust, and that screw is hard to turn too.
I just don't understand the basics of it I don't think.
Any help here would be appreciated. I am stumped and confused.
Well it sounds like you just need to loosen only the 3 little screws on the choke spring cover. It the black plastic looking round thing on the side of the carb. is the choke themostatic It has ONE little index mark line on it. The carb has raised small lines about 9or so with the middle one being longer as the common index. The Black round choke cover has or should have the words Rich & Lean with arrows on the side which would be the outer face of it.This controls how much to choke time by turning rich= long time for the choke to return to idel. Lean=less choking time. Now if your little choke vacuum pull down control that open the choke when you start the motor is bad, this is on the opens the choke butterfly. On 70-75 carbs if bad it is going to be sucking air and it may run faster or alittle ruff idel. This is on the top right by the choke intake horn lever. This has 3 screws in it. Have some start it and watch to see if it pulls donw and opens the choke a little. Ok it this is good then ture the round black themostatic housing one mark to the lean and retighten and replace everything and try this for a few days.. Ok now you got the info it's up to you..I hope this helps...my 2cents
