i just got ac working on 88 f150, using conversion kit for 134a. no idea how long it has not worked, since i bought truck used.
the air is good and cold, except at stop and go speeds as expected with 134a, but i am having rough idle and stalling problems .
the owners manual makes reference to shutting off the air conditioning before turning off the ignition to prevent the engine from running on because of the device that compensates for extra load of air conditioning! does anyone know how to check this "device " or where to look?
i have i-6 engine
if this is not the problem, then what to look for? bad compressor??
thanks for any advice!
The device is called and IAC (Idle Air Control) motor. The I-6 engines have a lot of problems with the idle controls. You need to get the computer scanned for any trouble codes and replace any sensors. Also try removing the throttle body and clean until all carbon deposites are gone.
